Yep. Saw it happen as I was pulling into a gas station one morning. As I was pulling in I saw a woman getting into her car. As all the fuel dispenser manufacturers were in use I aimed for the woman who was getting in thinking I would not have to wait there. I was approaching from the left of her vehicle and didn’t see the hose still “attached” until she started to move. I honked and could see the attendant inside gesturing wildly but the lady in the car kept moving. The hose extended a little bit but once tight it snapped off at the point where it attaches to the nozzle. There was a little spray of fuel but only a little leaked out as the hose fell to the ground. By this time I was directly behind the lady, lined up for the pump. The nozzle was still sticking out of the side of the car (which is a weird sight). The attendant came out and was clearly not happy. The lady also got out of her car and from what I could see there was a heated debate. I backed up and went for another pump. I didn’t see what happened next but I assume the lady have her insurance details and that was that. I learned later that the point where the hose connects to the nozzle is designed to break just for these occasions. I have no idea though how the flow of fuel stopped. If anyone knows, please leave a comment.
Have you ever seen anyone drive away with the fuel dispenser still in the vehicle?
